Pregnancy Loss

Many pregnancies are lost, particularly during the first trimester. While these losses are often heart-breaking for the couple pursuing a family, it is important to remember that these first trimester losses represent nature’s quality control program in what is an exceedingly complex process of reproduction.

The majority of the lost conceptions suffer from major abnormalities in chromosome number, known an aneuploidy, which are not compatible with normal growth and development (Aneuploidy Screening & PGS). The frequency of aneuploid conceptions increases with maternal age and thus contributes to age-associated infertility (What Is Age Factor?).
