For Egg Donors Only
Participation in egg donation at the Alta Bates IVF program can be a very gratifying and positive experience. Egg donation offers hope to infertile couples and single Intended Parents who otherwise would have virtually no chance of having a baby. Your contribution is genuinely a "gift of life." Whereas in the past most of the egg donation cycles were strictly anonymous, there is a recent trend towards directed or known donation.
The donor screening process includes a written application, medical and genetic history, a questionnaire and multiple choice personality test as well as in person interviews with Dr. Chetkowski and our consulting psychologist, Dr. Madeline Feingold. In addition there is a physical examination, pelvic ultrasound and blood and urine tests for relevant genetic conditions, drug exposure and infectious agents.
This extensive battery of tests is designed to assure not only that you are suitable for our program but, more importantly, that your participation would not be harmful to you and your health.
Egg donation is a time-consuming commitment which requires 5-6 office visits over a period of 2 weeks and a minor outpatient surgical procedure for retrieval of the eggs. Despite these strict requirements the vast majority of egg donors in our program undergo this procedure several times.
