Partner IVF Patient Story

My partner and I had been together for ten years when we came to Alta Bates to ask for help making a baby using my eggs and my partner's uterus. We had never tried to get pregnant using any other method, so we didn't know what to expect.

Although Dr. Chetkowski came highly recommended, we worried about what he might think of our request to use IVF to get pregnant. In fact, we were one of his first lesbian patients to use Partner IVF, as he now calls it. We found him kind, supportive and empathetic as we started the long and complicated process.

Dr. Chetkowski guided us through every step of the IVF process and supported us with every decision--even when he thought we were being too conservative by implanting just one embryo at a time and even though we used fewer medical interventions than was generally recommended.

On our fourth transfer from a single egg retrieval procedure, using two frozen-thawed embryos for the first time, my partner got pregnant and gave birth to a beautiful baby boy.
